WHAT THE ROLE LOOKS LIKE
The Controller is an initiative-taking role with a focus on maintaining appropriate financial controls, ensuring accurate and timely reporting, and working closely with management to provide decision-making support in a rapid growth environment. The professional we seek will be able to work up and down the organization and function as the accounting/finance backstop on a range of business issues. The successful hire will combine strong accounting and financial skills, excellent communication skills, and the ability to influence, persuade and resolve issues as they emerge. Experience with FinancialForce Accounting is a plus.
Our clients are located throughout the U.S. and many have global offices. At VFP, you’ll get to work remotely from anywhere in the continental U.S. and travel occasionally to meet in person as a team.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Plan, direct and oversee accounting, billing, collections, accounts payable, and payroll operations of the company
- Implement necessary internal controls and assure all internal controls are being followed and are effective
- Work closely with Project Managers and others in the Operations group to troubleshoot and maintain appropriate financial oversight of each project
- Preparation and/or review of the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with the company’s established reporting policies
- Working with the company’s tax firm to prepare and pay all applicable federal and state/local income and franchise tax returns
- Preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting to management
- Manage various accounting, tax, payroll, and/or customer audits
- Work with the senior management steering committee, and/or operations personnel to determine and support ad hoc financial reporting needs
- Assist with banking and treasury functions, including forecasting short-term and long-term cash needs and liquidity management
- Seek out opportunities for process improvements and staffing development within the department and implement said plans
- Maintaining accounting/project management software, including managing relationships with the internal support team in managing the process for periodic upgrades and testing

REQUIREMENTS AND SKILLS
- The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong accounting skills, the ability to work in a high-growth environment while maintaining appropriate financial controls, and experience persuading and influencing up, down, and across an organization.
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting or Finance required; CPA preferred
- 6+ years of progressive financial leadership experience
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Experience managing, developing and mentoring a team
- Strong analytical skills and ability to see a problem, identify the resources to solve that problem, and then go and fix it
