Unlock Potential, Lead From Within
“I only want to learn from and listen to one person’s voice for a 3-day meeting series” said no one…EVER! Even the soothing timbre of Morgan Freeman’s voice would lose its appeal after a day or so, with his honeyed words soon sounding like white noise. The point being, people crave variety when it comes to in-person or virtual training series sessions; they need variety in topics as well as presenters.
We are a 100% remote company, and our team is spread all across the Americas. When we have the opportunity to meet in person during our company meetups, we treat this time as sacred. It says everything about VFP’s values that we hold all billable work, and we commit to leveling ourselves up, together. This puts the very best kind of pressure on our meetup sessions – they have to be good. Scratch that. They have to be great!
What’s the secret to our meetup success? We tap into our greatest resource for meetup content – our people. We are a small but mighty organization, brimming with passionate, talented people who come from different backgrounds, industries, and cultures. There’s so much experience to pull from, and that’s exactly what we do.
We lean in on the phrase skill sharing versus upskilling, as the latter connotes a top down mentality – that the people receiving training are below the person or agency providing the training. There’s greater equity in the term skill sharing, and it resonates with VFP and our core values.
The formula is simple. Presenters choose topics they are most passionate about. Our team is pushed to learn a new skill, or to think about something in a new way whilst being guided by our peers, colleagues, and friends. Passion is contagious, and having different voices lead each session keeps our meetup interesting for our teams, and maximizes the investment for our company.
What could be better? For us at VFP Consulting, the answer is nothing. Teams are naturally much more invested when a colleague they respect is presenting on a topic they care deeply about. Our presenters work incredibly hard to refine their presentations, to drive towards an achievable outcome, and to make their sessions engaging and interactive because they care about the experience they’re providing for the rest of the company.
After our meetup events, we feel more united as a team, we’re inspired to improve our soft skills, our practice, and our delivery. It’s critical for us to constantly push the bar higher for the caliber of work we deliver. That’s one of the best things that comes after our team skill sharing sessions – we push ourselves to keep striving higher. It’s a big commitment for an organization to dedicate time to develop their people. When this effort is done effectively, it has an immediate and positive impact on the quality we bring back to what matters most in our business – our clients.
